It has a Factory Mutual approval for Class I, II, and III, Division I, Groups C, D, E, F, and G.

The DT-5K features NEMA 4, 4X ratings. NEMA rated type 4 products are meant to be used in indoor or outdoor applications, and must provide protection against falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, hose-directed water, and must be undamaged by the formation of ice on the enclosure. NEMA rated type 4X products provide all the protection of NEMA 4 with the additiona of protection against corrosion.

Intrinsic safety (IS) is a protection technique for safe operation of electronic equipment in highly explosive atmospheres. The concept was developed for safe operation of process control instrumentation in hazadous areas, particularly on oil and gas platforms. As a discipline, it is an application of Inherent safety in Instrumentation.

Intrinsically safe equipment is defined as "equipment and wiring which is incapable of releasing sufficient electrical or thermal energy under normal or abnormal conditions to cause ignition of a specific hazardous atmospheric mixture in its most easily ignited concentration." (ISA-RP12.6) This is achieved by limiting the amount of power available to the electrical equipment in the hazardous area to a level below that which will ignite the gases.
