Dual-core and quad-core processors offer breakthrough performance to manage the largest computing needs. Reduce operating costs with industry-leading energy efficiency and the ability to do more work with each processor.
Handle increased performance challenges today, with headroom for tomorrow. Intel® dual-core and quad-core processors are available now for servers, desktops, and laptops.
Dual-core and quad-core processor benefits
Build an efficient and responsive IT infrastructure with dual-core and quad-core processors from Intel. Get higher throughput on processor-intensive applications, as shown by the benchmark figures on this page.
These processors increase scalability by allowing the deployment of multiple execution cores per processor socket. Intel delivers this scalability advantage with its latest server, desktop, and mobile processors.
Innovations in memory boost performance even further. Data-intensive, memory-bound applications run faster because of fully-buffered DIMM technology, which speeds up the memory subsystem with a buffer on each memory module and serial point-to-point lanes between modules. The memory performance advantage is augmented by up to a 4MB L2 cache in Intel® Xeon® and Intel® Core™2 Duo processors, and up to 24MB L3 cache in Intel® Itanium® 2 processors.
Dual-core and quad-core processors save on power because energy consumption remains relatively constant with an increasing number of cores, even as performance scales upward. That relationship helps decrease energy costs for servers and desktops, and it increases battery life for laptops.
Dual-core and quad-core are 64-bit enabled
Increase performance with 64-bit² processing from every Intel dual-core and quad-core processor, including servers, desktops, and laptops. Reduce the number of servers required to handle memory-intensive applications by breaking through the 4GB limit of system memory imposed by 32-bit architectures. Control cost of ownership by enabling mainstream desktops and mobile platforms to execute workloads that previously would have required servers or specialized hardware.
Processors based on Intel® 64 architecture increase the implementation options available because they handle data in chunks twice as wide as 32-bit architectures. That characteristic allows them to handle larger data sets in implementations that range from digital video to high-performance clusters and the largest transactional databases.
